I'd argue the default Video Preview Thumbnail setting should also be reduced by default, or given in the settings with an estimate of how much space it'll consume (~7GB per 1TB at the default setting of 2, down to ~3.5GB per 1TB at a setting of 4). It shouldn't be left up to server admins to discover the folder on their own when they're suddenly wondering what's taking up so much space on their OS drive or why their small OS SSD is suddenly full or why it's showing so much wear. The media data folder should be a location specified during installation, with a warning that it's going to take up about 7GB per 1TB of media at default settings. My AppData\Local folder is 76GB, with Plex making up 71GB of that 76GB. I love Plex, but this fix was almost as bad as the initial design decision to place a hidden media data folder that will swell to a huge size in a place on the OS drive where no one would expect a huge data folder to be. Instead of patching the Plex server to prevent it from executing a malicious file, or adding a check to disable overlapping the Plex server's data directory with a Plex library directory, they removed the ability to change the server's data directory from the Plex server settings and made it a hidden Windows Registry variable instead. This is clearly a Plex vulnerability that they fixed in a lazy/stupid way. Not seeing how this is at all a Microsoft/Windows issue. You can then install the Plex app onto any device to access this content wherever you are. Plex works as a hub for all your favorite media including Movies, TV Shows, Photos, Music and more. So someone with access to a Plex admin's account could change the Plex server's data directory to overlap with a Plex library and then exploit Plex's Camera Upload feature to have the Plex media server execute a malicious file. Plex Media Server is an all-in-one media software system that stores and transmits content from a central location to all your favorite devices. This could be done by setting the server data directory to overlap with the content location for a library on which Camera Upload was enabled. > This issue allowed an attacker with access to the server administrator’s Plex account to upload a malicious file via the Camera Upload feature and have the media server execute it.
